The Indus River Valley Civilization was part of the Bronze Age. Although many cities and towns were part of the civilization, the two major cities were Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa that lasted roughly around 2500-1500 BCE. Known for their organized layouts, these cities were the greatest achievements of the Indus Civilization.
The geographic location of the Indus River Valley Civilization was very much to their benefit. Mountains (Himalayas) along with the Arabian Sea kept them away from attacks and disease and the river was used to fertilize land and irrigate crops. It may sound crazy, but a sophisticated and technologically advanced urban culture was shown in this civilization. Although the things they used were not as advanced as ours, people in the third century were very much alike us. Kids played games, and women wore jewelry and even lipstick. Some of the things we have today resemble things from when this civilization was present; for example, a statue was found wearing a bracelet with a very similar design to the bracelets still worn in India till this day. Anthropologists believe that these cities, Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa, were very greatly developed for their period of time. The deeper you look into the everyday lives of these people, the more you understand the reasoning for their location, government, economy, and etc. |
